The Medway Japan Friendship Association
To support and uphold the spirit of the Sister City Partnerships signed between Medway Council and Ito, and Medway Council and Yokosuka (originally with Gillingham Borough Council in 1982), in recognition of the association between William Adams, who became the first Englishman to reach Japan, and Gillingham, where he was born in 1564.
